My favorite cultural exhibit/institution dedicated to one country or culture in LA. Everything inside changes a few times a year and I’ve seen some of the best exhibits of my life inside this compact but well utilized space. It’s tucked away and could be hard to find — but it’s worth seeking out if you love Japan. The gift shop right when you walk in is also a great place to shop for anyone who loves all things Japanese.
“A Captivating Journey Through Japan at Japan House, Los Angeles”
My partner and I had an enchanting experience at Japan House, Los Angeles, located on level two at Ovation, Hollywood Mall. The recent collaboration with Pokémon added a delightful theme to our visit, showcasing a diverse range of Pokémon features. The attention to detail, especially with grown-up Pokémon, was impressive, highlighting the hard work invested in the artwork.
As a tip for visitors, be mindful not to bring large luggage, as they might restrict entry due to legal reasons. Wearing your backpack in front helps prevent accidents in this treasure trove of potentially expensive items. The ambient transition from outside to inside is seamless, offering a high-quality immersive experience. Each section is guarded, ensuring the security of the exhibited products.
Respect for the art is paramount; avoid touching statues, but feel free to take pictures and tag the artists. However, refrain from recording, as the emphasis is on an in-person experience. The overall customer experience is akin to stepping into Japan, and I highly recommend it. For parking, opt for a secure, paid spot, especially if you’re a tourist. Keep valuables out of sight. In conclusion, Japan House is a must-visit for anyone seeking a taste of Japan’s rich culture and creativity.
Went go check out the Pokemon x Kogei exhibit. Very nice pieces. Beautiful creations. No video allowed. Pictures are welcomed. You can see the exhibit in 15min. Free entrance . Staff was friendly
As I was at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood Blvd, wherein I accidentally found myself attracted to a large store - Japan House - which is on the same level and is currently hosting a unique exhibition with the theme of Pokémon x Kogei.
It’s a playful encounter of Pokémon with the Japanese crafts.
Kogei is a Japanese art form that brings everyday life objects to pieces of art using unique materials and designs to maximize the effect.
The floor graphics on the entrance itself were very unique, followed my lovely high-end merchandise as well as pieces of art from the Pokémon family.
It’s definitely worth a visit if you are in that area.
JAPAN HOUSE LA has a variety of free rotating art exhibits that feature various types of Japanese culture and art. You can also purchase various items here, such as authentic pottery, tea, incense or other collectable items. The most recent exhibit is Pokemon × Kogei and there are some really detailed statues/sculptures of various Pokemon on display made with a variety of materials. It only takes 15 minutes to casually visit, so if you're in the area definitely come check it out. They also offer validation for your parking in the structure as well (simply for visiting!).
The Pokémon art pieces were so beautifully crafted with so much attention to detail. The detail in painting is magnificent. You have to read each description for each art piece. There is one piece with over 500 Pokémon painted on it. It’s …
Check the schedule of exhibits before you go, otherwise you may only be able to visit the gift shop (while they transition from one exhibit to another) …
We stumbled on this wonderful Pokémon and Koge' exhibit while site seeing on the strip. Beautiful artwork.
